Profiles in Patients Rising: Sarah Krug of Cancer101

On June 2nd the first Patients Rising University event will take place in Chicago. Among many expert speakers will be Sarah Krug, CEO of CANCER101.

Sarah Krug is the Chief Executive of CANCER101, a non-profit organization whose mission is “to empower, inform and engage patients and their caregivers to take control over their diagnosis, navigate the cancer journey and partner with their healthcare team to make informed decisions.”

 

Sarah has seen firsthand the failure of communication between doctor and patient when, at a young age, she lost her mother to cancer and Sarak Krug TEDxher father to an adverse medication reaction. This started her on a path to fix the problems in the Doctor Patient relationship. In 2017 she gave a talk at TEDx titled, “The Patient Doctor Tango”, exploring the nature of how a doctor and a patient interact. Sarah also founded the Health Collaboratory, which brings patient-centric strategies into the relationship between doctor, patient, educators, business and researchers.

 

Sarah has played many roles in healthcare in her career, from conducting clinical research to leading efforts to educate patients and clinicians. She has written and presented on numerous topics including, most recently, an event on May 29th by the Society of Participatory Medicine on “social isolation”, a modern phenomenon in which people experience a profound loneliness Health Collaboratorydespite having family in the age of “social” media.

Patients Rising is honored to be collaborating with Sarah in our first installment of Patients Rising University, “Organizing Your Cancer Care”, on June 2nd in Chicago. She will be joined by the event’s moderator, Emmy Award winning reporter Stacey Gualandi, David Freedman of LegalZoom, Dena Battle, President of KCCureClara Lambert of Oncology Financial Navigators, and patient voice and educator, Alyse Poteshman.  We expect that this exceptional team their practical knowledge will provide a clear path for newly diagnosed cancer patients and their families.
