Collective action is the cornerstone of how Patients Rising addresses the education and advocacy needs of patients seeking access to quality care for a serious disease or illness. We work in partnership with individuals, non-profit organizations, professional societies, and members of industry that are raising awareness, speaking out for patients and advocating for policies that align with Patients Rising’s founding mission:
We fight for access to vital therapies and services for patients with life-threatening and chronic diseases. If a patient needs it to survive and live a better quality, more productive life -- we believe access to those treatments and creating a balanced dialogue in the national conversation around these issues is essential.
Founded in 2015, Patients Rising is a Washington, DC-based 501(c) (3) non-profit organization that works to fill a void in the debate over patient access to quality medical care. Our mission is to speak for patients, especially those with life-threatening diseases and chronic conditions, regarding the matters that most affect them – from access to state-of-the-art diagnostics and genetic testing to being treated with the medicines prescribed by their physician as the most effective for their specific disease and individual characteristics. As such, Patients Rising works in collaboration with professional societies, other advocacy organizations and think tanks to amplify the patient’s voice on such issues as value frameworks, clinical pathways, and restrictive insurer practices that limit or delay access to quality care. We also articulate the patient’s voice in advocating for policies that ensure patients are able to participate in a robust decision-making process with their health care team on the most appropriate treatment options based on their preferences and needs.
To achieve these goals, Patients Rising receives unrestricted mission grants from a number of biopharmaceutical companies and trade associations, which fund the organization’s programs and initiatives. None of the organization’s programs or positions are influenced in any way by our funders. Patients Rising also works in partnership with a number of like-minded non-profit organizations to reach patients, caregivers, health professionals and policymakers through a range of communications channels. This allows the organization to have a broader reach and magnify the impact of our mission grants.
Our partners and supporters enhance our ability to help patients across disease states, strengthen our conversations with stakeholders in all sectors of the healthcare system – patients, caregivers, health professionals, researchers, payers, innovators, regulators and legislators – and create the multiplier effect so the voices of patients will be heard.
In essence, our partners and supporters are valued members of the Patients Rising community. Their generous financial and in-kind support allowed Patients Rising to open its doors in 2015 and continues to help us advocate for sensible approaches that will ensure patients regardless of who they are and where they live have access to the right treatment, right now.
